Invest Your Self Directed HSA in What YOU Know
Self-direction of tax-free or deferred plan investments means that you decide on the investments you wish to make in your plan. This means that you have complete control over what your plan buys subject only to the IRS rules. The investment section of your plan specifies what types of investments are permitted and under what circumstances. Truly self-directed plans have investment language which permits you to direct the trustee or custodian of your HSA plan to make any investment permitted by law, and/or the trustee or custodian is able to make on behalf of your plan. The trust and plan documents will also indicate that there are transactions which are prohibited and in the case of HSAs, those collectibles which are not permitted. The tax laws affecting HSAs can be confusing and complicated. Depending upon your financial situation, your future goals, and whether you might have an employee-sponsored plan available, you will need to choose between several alternatives. Our recommendation is that you study your position carefully and confer with your tax advisor or financial planner on the best course for you. Once you decide on the right plans for you, New Direction is here to give you the flexibility of controlling your retirement funds today and soon, the ability to self-direct your HSA. Entrust New Direction, IRA, Inc. provides self-directed HSA services for investors who wish to control their own investment decisions for their HSAs as well as their IRAs, Qualified plans, and Educational Savings Accounts (ESAs).
